COLUMBUS, GA (WXTX) - A man accused of killing his mother has been given the maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.
Derrick Harris of Columbus pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime in connection to the 2008 death of his mother, Lorraine Harris Street.
Investigators say an argument between Harris and his mother in their home ended with him stabbing her two times before running off. Street's body was discovered by relatives who came to check on her.
Relatives say Street was a funny, loving and generous woman.
