Valley man crashes into civilian vehicles, patrol vehicles attempting to elude arrest

VALLEY, AL (WTVM) -

On Wednesday, May 28 at approximately 5:45 p.m., officers of the Valley Police Department were dispatched to the Dollar Tree, located at3418 20th Ave., in reference to a violation of a Protection fromAbuse Order.

 Upon their arrival they were told that the suspect, 23-year-old Kori Coreen Stanford of Valley,had left the scene in a white Chrysler PT Cruiser. At 5:50 p.m. Stanford was spotted by another Valley Officer traveling south on Highway 29 near 26thAvenue.

The officer was able to turn around on Stanford and initiate a traffic stop on him at Highway 29 and Hodge Street. As the officer left his patrol car to make contact with him, Stanford accelerated away.

The officer gave chase and Stanford ran through several yards in his vehicle trying to get away. The chase got back onto Highway 29traveling north, reaching speeds of 80 miles per hour. Stanford swerved into oncoming traffic several times but did not hit anyone.

The chase continued into Lanett where Stanford ran into aValley Patrol car. The chase then entered West Point and into West PointHousing Authority where Stanford struck at least two civilian vehicles. The chase ended on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive at 6:09 p.m. when Stanford crashed head-on with a Chambers County Sheriff's Office Deputy.

Stanford continued to resist officers and was tazed in order to take him into custody. Stanford complained of pain to his side and was voluntarily transported to EAMC-GHL Hospital for treatment. The Chambers CountyDeputy and a Police Explorer, who was riding with the Deputy, were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

During the chase Stanford struck three Valley patrol vehicles. At this time, Stanford is being charged in Valley with attempting to elude, reckless endangerment and several traffic violations. He has an outstanding warrant for Domestic Violence 3rd in Lanett and he faces four charges of felony aggravated assault in West Point.

More charges may be pending.

Once Stanford is released from the hospital he will be transported to the Chambers County Detention Center where he will be held pending bond and extradition back to Georgia.
