Police: purse thief targets employees in their workplaces

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Columbus police are looking for a man accused of targeting retail stores. But instead of shoplifting merchandise, they say he is stealing from the individual employees when they are not looking. 

He's been caught on camera in surveillance video all over town, and now police need your help to put him in handcuffs.  

The man in these photos is accused of entering businesses during the daytime and stealing the wallets and purses of unsuspecting employees while they are busy at work.

These photos were posted in the Neighborhood Watchers Group on Facebook and the are from security cameras at Columbus Hospice on Moon Road and Lizard Thicket on Airport Thruway.

The suspect is also accused of stealing from employees at the Galleria Riverside and Kinnucan's of Columbus.  

The owner of one store said the same suspect made a failed attempt to steal from his staff. According to him, the man came in asking for gas money, but he told him to 'get lost.'  He believes the suspect was trying to get a look at where employees kept their purses.

All of the businesses prevented us from speaking to the victims on camera, but one woman posted on Facebook, "He used four of my credit cards and one hundred eighty dollars cash before I even knew it was missing. He threw our wallets in the trash in the men's restroom."

Police said the suspect was able to use the cards to make big purchases at other stores before the victims caught on. If you recognize the man in this picture and know where he is, you're asked to call 911.

    An unknown driver took scrambled, scattered and covered to a whole new level at an Opelika waffle house. This is a photo of the Waffle House on Fox Run Parkway where a car drove into the side of the building earlier today. The manager has confirmed the location is closed for the time being but no word of when the restaurant will reopen. Authorities have not released any information on any possible injuries.
