(WISH/CNN) - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now says an Illinois businessman does not have Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, or MERS, after all.

That means there have been no confirmed transmissions of the virus within the U.S.

The Illinois man did meet with the first confirmed U.S. MERS patient, and the face-to-face meeting did include a handshake.

Two cases of MERS have been imported into the country.
