EAMC releases statement on Dr. John Mitchell’s indictment

OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) -

The East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC) released the following statement on Friday, May 30 in reference to the indictment of Dr. John Mitchell:

"EAMC is committed to providing high quality, appropriate and compassionate health care and to fostering a culture of compliance and accountability. As such, EAMC was surprised and disappointed to learn that Dr. John Mitchell has been charged with Medicare fraud. It's important to remember, however, that Dr. Mitchell is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law and we fully respect that process.

"Dr. Mitchell has had medical privileges at EAMC since 1985 and has skillfully treated many patients in our community. That makes these allegations truly unfortunate.

"EAMC remains 100 percent committed to providing world class cardiology care, and to complying with all applicable laws and regulations. EAMC has been cooperative with authorities and will continue to cooperate fully in the process."
