COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Now that school is out, several Muscogee County teachers are dealing with layoffs.

We were told it was coming months ago, and just two weeks ago, leaders at the District Office said 31 teachers were not offered a new contract for the next school year.

News Leader 9 asked on Friday, May 31, for an update, and the MCSD Director of Communications Valerie Fuller responded, "We're still in the process of determining the budget, needs, vacancies, retirements, resignations, and reorganization and expect to have a budget update by Monday, June 2, 2014."

There is a specially called school board meeting on Monday, June 2, where new numbers in this restructuring process may be revealed.

Meanwhile, the school district is modifying its summer hours of operation to save money.

Starting the same Monday, June 2, all division offices and schools will be open to the public Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. They will be closed every Friday through July 18.

Fuller says the District will save around $150,000 by making these changes.
