COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

The Columbus Lions may be known for showing their off their skills on the field, but Saturday, May 31, they were out helping young players improve their game.

Kids ages nine to 14 were out playing at the indoor stadium. For the past seven years the Lions organization has sponsored the Youth Indoor Football League. The Tri-City Cowboys are now into their second season.

Tri-City Cowboys head coach Carlton Spivey says they are starting where they left off last season.

"The league is a nice venue for the younger kids to get exposed to arena football," Spivey says. "They get a chance to come down, and watch the Lions play. Each kid gets a free pass to the Columbus Lions adult game, and so they get a chance to come down and play in the arena just like the big guys. So I like it, but the kids love it."

The Youth Football League has now grown to 18 teams, which have been formed not only in Columbus, but in cities like Atlanta and Opelika as well.
