AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - In an ongoing effort to improve services and increase appeal to a growing number of guests and visitors, Chewacla State Park recently completed upgrades to the campground and site facilities.
According to park manager O'Dell Banks, each of the existing 36 camper campsites have been upgraded to include both 30 and 50 amp power hookups, as well as satellite television capabilities.
"These were the first of what will be a number of improvements we are making to Chewacla State Park," stated Banks. "Our goal is to provide park guests with an enjoyable experience, and encourage more and more people to partake in the great outdoor activities we have to offer. The additional power outlets will make it possible for people with a wider variety of RV's and motorized campers to utilize our facilities."
Additional renovations were conducted in each of the two public restroom facilities at the park, adding air conditioning and new appliances. Both campers and day visitors at the park utilize the facilities.
No additional fees will be charged for the new services. These upgrades are made possible due to a small amount of money provided by the state's general fund budget to be paid towards maintenance fees.
Almost all of the state parks system's operating budget is solely generated by parks visitors – more than 90 percent – but these maintenance fees are a critical part to the 22 state parks' ability to improve the experience for visitors.
"Just in time for summer, too" Banks added.
