HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A Huntsville City Schools librarian was honored with a state award.

Michelle Barnett is a library media specialist at Providence Elementary School, and the recipient of the 2013-14 Carrie C. Robinson Award for Outstanding School Library Media Program.

The honor was presented Monday at the Alabama School Library Association conference in Irondale.

School officials said the award recognizes "innovation and creativity in library activities." They said Barnett goes above and beyond to enhance the students' educational experience.
