Columbus announces public forums to discuss intended property tax increase

Posted: Updated:

The Consolidated Government of Columbus, Ga. is announcing their intention to raise property taxes it will levy in 2014 over the rollback millage rate in several taxing districts.

The Urban Services Districts affected would be 1,2,4,5,6 and 7.

According to a press release from Columbus city officials, before the Columbus Consolidated Government may finalize the tentative budget and set a final millage rate, Georgia law requires three public hearings to be held to allow the public an opportunity to express their opinions on the increase.

The public hearings on the tax increase will be held at the Council Chambers on the second level of the City Services Center on June 10, at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., and June 17 at 9 a.m.
