HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

There were 95 percent of precincts reporting for the State Senate District 7 race on Tuesday night. 

Paul Sanford, the incumbent, was declared the Republican nominee with 72 percent of the votes according to the Associated Press, and for the Democrats, Mitchell Howie led with 53 percent of the votes.

Sanford ran against David Blair who received 28 percent of the vote when the race was called. Mitchell Howie is running against Rhonda Gaskin, who currently has 47 percent of the votes.
