ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A man with a long criminal history is back in jail now after leading Albany Dougherty Drug Unit agents on a chase in south Albany.

Agents got a tip that Tanaka Grant was selling drugs. A license plate reader helped them identify his car.

Grant sped away as agents tried to pull him over a little before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Slappey Boulevard and Oakridge Drive, and he crashed on Willie Pitts Road where he was arrested.

Drug Unit Commander Maj. Bill Berry said, "These new tag readers and all, it's gonna show up real quick, real easy on us, and they had already checked that out. The subject's on parole. All that was given to us, and we were able to determine that this was the subject that we go the information on."

Agents confiscated about a half pound of marijuana bagged up and ready to sell, plus a few hundred dollars.

Grant is on probation for drug and fleeing convictions from a previous chase.

He was checked out at Phoebe Putney Hospital then booked into the Dougherty County Jail late Tuesday night on a charge of marijuana possession with intent to distribute and multiple traffic violations.
