Phillips 1st team NJCAA All-America; Holland, Rentz also honored

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – Former Columbus HS shortstop JT Phillips was named to the NJCAA All-American first team, it was announced yesterday.

Phillips, the GACC's Player of the Year, led Georgia Perimeter to the conference tournament championship in May. For the season, he hit .419 with 20 extra base hits and 50 RBI in 50 games. As a pitcher, he was 2-2 with a 2.75 ERA and seven saves.

Two CVCC players also earned honors. Shortstop John Holland was named to the second team. Holland was the ACCC Player of the Year, batting .406 with 24 extra base hits, 38 RBI and 70 runs scored in 59 games. Pitcher Dalton Rentz was on the Honorable Mention list after going 12-2 with a 1.82 ERA, and earning ACCC Tournament MVP honors.

Holland and Rentz were the leaders on a Pirate squad that was ranked No. 1 in the nation the final six weeks of the season, and earned the programs first-ever trip to the NJCAA World Series in Grand Junction, Colo.
