SHELBY COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

A Columbiana man will enjoy some fine eating after catching a large, flathead catfish while noodling on the Coosa River last weekend.

Bryan Schauer, 23, pulled the 40-pound, 37-inch long flathead catfish near the Waxahatchee area in Shelby County June 7. He was on a fishing trip with his father, friend and two younger brothers.

Schauer often noodles but said in a video posted to Facebook that this was the biggest flathead he's ever caught.

Schauer, a licensed taxidermist, plans to eat the fish and later create a reproduction of his monster catch.

Noodling is a form of fishing where a person uses their bare hands to reach into a catfish hole and pull out the fish.
