Rash of violent crimes hit Fountain City over 14 hour period


Armed robberies, aggravated assaults and a carjacking leave Columbus police scrambling for answers. The incidents popped up close to 10 p.m. Monday night and continued until early Tuesday morning.

We'll start with the most violent crimes listed in Columbus Police Reports. A police report states a 24-year-old man told authorities he was stabbed by two unknown suspects on Forrest Road around 1 p.m. Monday afternoon. The stabbing victim was cut on his arms and right calf. The suspect's information was given to investigators.

Later, at approximately 11:30 Monday night, police say two men were shot outside of a house on the 2900 block of 12th Avenue. The victims were later identified as 33-year-old Jesse Denson, who was shot in the hip, and 22-year-old Curtis Morten who was shot in the chest. Both men were transported to Midtown Medical Center where Morten remains in intensive care.

Early Tuesday morning, around 3 a.m., a male cab driver was shot at the G and B Food Mart on Brown Avenue. The victim later walked to the Mystic Food Mart and asked to call police. He is in Midtown Medical Center in unsatisfactory condition.

A line of armed robberies were also reported overnight.

At nearly 10:30 p.m. Monday, a 40-year-old man reported two men pointed a pistol at his face on the street along Plantation Drive, and his phone was stolen. The victim told police the suspects were two black men in their early 20s. Then, at 1:20 a.m., an 18-year-old woman reported two men with bandanas on their faces walked up to her 2005 Ford Escape in a driveway. The report states the suspects used a handgun to hijack the vehicle on 1100 block of Lawyers Lane.

An hour later, a 31-year-old man said four males, possibly juveniles, approached him in a parking lot and pointed a pistol a him, taking his Mercedes Benz car key, iPhone 4 and a Bluetooth on the 3500 block of Hilton Avenue. The suspects' vehicle is described as a small, 4 door silver sedan.

According to police report, just seven minutes later on the 3100 block of Gentian Boulevard, a 54-year-old man says four males approached him in a parking lot on Gentian Boulevard and pointed a pistol at him. The keys to his Chevrolet Colorado were stolen, along with a black iPhone 5 and his wallet.

And finally at 3 a.m., a 26-year-old man told police three men approached him on a sidewalk, pointing pistols at him and kicking him to the ground. The report says the victim's wallet, cell phone and backpack were taken on Macon Road near Sears Road. The suspect's vehicle in each of the last robberies was described as a small, 4 door silver sedan, possibly a Hyundai with an unknown GA tag.

Police say all of the incidents from overnight are being investigated. At this time, there is no word of arrests in any of the incidents.
