LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A former minister who currently works as a substitute teacher in northern Indiana is now in Louisville to face sex abuse charges involving minors.

Allen L. Lehmann, 76, of Valparaiso, Indiana, was arrested May 30 after being indicted in Louisville by a Jefferson County Grand Jury the day before.

The indictment states the charges against Lehmann involve three girls under the age of 12 and took place between the months of May and August in the years 1993, 1994, 1999 and 2000.

The Director of Programs and Services for Family and Children's Place, an organization that provides counseling to children and families who've survived sexual abuse, offered insight into why some victims wait years until reporting abuse.

"Often, children have really mixed relationships with the people who abuse them. They love them, but they hate what's happening to them. They want the abuse to stop but they think, they've been told, if you report the person may end up in jail. So that mixed relationship they have sometimes with the offender certainly reflects whether or not they come forward," Donna Russow said.

Lehmann has been booked into Louisville Metro Corrections on two counts of sodomy and seven counts of sexual abuse. Jail records show Lehmann is being held on $100,000 cash bond and is scheduled to be arraigned on June 12.
