MADISON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A woman attending Ridgeland Municipal Court on Tuesday morning became the victim of a crime, while on the property.

Ridgeland Police said the woman went inside the building and returned a short time later to find a window of her vehicle broken out and her purse missing.

Assistant Chief John Neal said,"Very bold, unheard of, I almost say extremely rare for something like this to happen. I'd say on court days there's a lot cars out there, there's also a lot of foot traffic, a lot of people moving around so for Mr. Boyd to do this is a extremely bold action on his part."

Surveillance video showed a person wearing a hooded jacket with multiple colors walking around the victim's vehicle and breaking the window stealing the purse.

The man, identified as 18-year-old Edward D. Boyd was arrested in Jackson on North Alabama Street Wednesday morning by a joint effort from Ridgeland and Jackson Police.

Boyd was charged with one count of auto burglary.

In the video footage, you may notice Boyd was limping. He told police he accidentally shot himself in the foot with another stolen handgun that was reported out of Madison.

Boyd's girlfriend, 18-year-old Jamela J. Carthan, was also arrested and charged with accessory after the fact to auto burglary because she was riding with Boyd at the time of the incident.

A firearm which had been reported stolen in the victim's purse was recovered at the residence.

Both will be held without bond until their initial court appearances in Ridgeland Municipal Court.

Boyd is now facing a contempt of court charge on top of the auto burglary and larceny charges.
Police say he could also face charges for possession of a stolen handgun.

"We run an extremely secure building here. We've got probably 40 something cameras around the building about every square inch of this building is covered. You're not going to get away with something like this. This falls under that dumb crook news category," said Neal.
