HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Correy James Dartez, 54, was sentenced to life in prison on Wednesday for the murder of his wife back in 2013. A Harrison County jury unanimously found Dartez guilty of smothering his 52-year-old wife, Victoria Dartez, with a pillow while she was taking a nap.

Victoria had special needs including Down syndrome and other non life-threatening issues.

The murder happened on January 30, 2013, at the Seashore Oak Apartments on Highway 90 in Biloxi.

Officials say Dartez called police and confessed to the murder saying he could no longer afford her medications. Evidence presented during the trial showed Dartez could afford the medicine.

Dartez did not testify during the case.
