TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Investigators need the public's help identifying a woman found dead in Avra Valley last week.

That's why they've released two photos associated with the woman that may help somebody come forward and identify her.

Because the body was so badly decomposed, all authorities know for sure is she was an adult female with brown hair. She was relatively small, officials say, and was likely Caucasian based on her light complexion.

It's still unclear how old the woman was or how she died; however, officials say she was probably in the desert four to seven days before a passerby noticed something unusual near the intersection of Trico Road and Avra Valley Road last Friday.

We're told that passerby got out of her car and walked in the direction of what she saw.  As she got closer, it became increasingly evident she was looking at a human body – so she immediately called 911.

Authorities won't tell us the exact circumstances or how the body was situated when it was found.  What they will say is the victim didn't end up in this position by herself.  And because of that  -- her death is considered extremely suspicious, to say the least.

"I don't want to give too many details about how her body was found, but the circumstances surrounding where her body was and how it was placed lead us to believe that somebody else was involved in her death," says Pima County Sheriff's Lt. David Theel. " But what actually caused her death we don't know."

In an effort to identify the victim, Pima County Sheriff's officials have released two photos: one is an anchor pendant, which was worn around the woman's neck, the other a butterfly tattoo, located slightly below the woman's left collarbone.

"We haven't been able to identify her yet," Theel says.  "And we're hoping by sharing this information there might be somebody that recognizes this tattoo which was near her left clavicle, her collarbone…or this pendant that might be able to give us some information on who the victim is."

If you have any information about these images or anything unusual that may have happened in Avra Valley over the last two weeks, call 911, 88-CRIME or the Pima County Sheriff's Department.
