Wednesday's storms contribute to collapse at Henrico warehouse

Posted: Updated:
HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -

Tonight's storms throughout the area appeared to cause significant damage to a warehouse in Henrico, police said, where bricks along one side of the building peeled away and fell to the ground.

The warehouse is located at 2208 Perl Road. Workers there reported hearing a loud noise they originally thought was lightning hitting the building. Once outside, one of the workers reported seeing his car covered in bricks that had fallen away from the building.

Henrico's building inspector reviewed the scene and determined that a lack of sufficient brick ties led to the collapse.

Authorities said the building will not need to be closed during repairs.
