BRTC receives C-23 cargo plane

Posted: Updated:

POCAHONTAS, AR (KAIT) - An army C-23 cargo plane flew into Pocahontas Wednesday afternoon and it's there to stay.

The plane was donated to Black River Technical College and will be used by students in both law enforcement and aviation training.

Steve Shults, director of the Law Enforcement Training Academy at BRTC, said having this plane is going to help provide invaluable training.

"We're going to use it for hostage situation training for the academy and drug smuggling techniques, you know, in taking down the airplanes and so forth—how to secure it," said Shults.

Shults said this was made possible through the 10-33 program, which allows law enforcement entities to obtain surplus military equipment.
