WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

According to Duke Energy's Outage Map (http://bit.ly/1hXPq5h), a major power outage Thursday morning was caused by animals damaging their equipment.

According to Leslie Irving with the WPD, several traffic lights are out including the intersections of MLK Parkway and S. Kerr Avenue and it has extended to Market Street and part of Princess Place Drive. Other nearby intersections are also affected.

Officers are assisting with traffic control until power is restored. Intersections that currently do not have an officer on scene are asked to be treated as four-way stops.

Duke Energy has been contacted and is responding. City traffic and engineering crews are also responding to assist with traffic control.

At this time, there is no word on when power may be restored.
