Victory Drive shooting turns out to be false

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Columbus Police have arrested three men who were involved in reporting a false robbery and shooting on Victory Drive.

Tremaine Ortiz told police late Thursday night that he was shot while someone was trying to rob him. Ortiz Later confessed that he fabricated the story, and that he actually shot himself in the foot. He was treated at the hospital and released.

Ortiz has been charged with false report of a crime, reckless conduct, discharging a pistol near a public street, and carrying a concealed weapon.

After police conducted interviews, two more men were arrested. Jakorey Thomas is charged with false report of a crime and carrying a concealed weapon. Maerquell Watson is charged with reporting false information to police.

They are expected to appear in Recorder's Court on June 14 at 8 a.m.
