Tech's Summitt makes additions to coaching staff

RUSTON, LA (KSLA/Louisiana Tech Sports Information) -

Louisiana Tech head coach Tyler Summitt announced two new additions to his staff as Eric Burton and Ashley Thompson have both joined the Lady Techster basketball program.

Burton will serve as the director of basketball operations and video coordinator while Thompson will service as the multimedia and creative services associate for the program's social media accounts.

"I am thrilled to have both Eric and Ashley join our staff," Summitt said. "They are both multi-talented, energetic individuals whose skill sets will only enhance our ability to run a topnotch program, while serving our current student-athletes and recruiting future student-athletes. They are a perfect fit for the Lady Techster basketball family."

Burton comes to Ruston after earning his bachelor's degree in business administration at Marquette University earlier this month. During his collegiate days in Milwaukee, Burton served as the women's basketball head manager and assistant video coordinator for the past three seasons.

"I am incredibly honored to be at Louisiana Tech," Burton said. "I feel fortunate to be a part of Tyler Summitt's staff. I feel I am ready for the responsibilities that come with this position. I am excited about doing my part to help lead this program back to where it should be. "

His responsibilities at Marquette included overseeing game-day and road trip operations, film break down, supervision of other managers and other day-to-day activities associated with practice and workouts. Burton was the recipient of the Ignatius Merit and Service Scholarship and the Business Administration Scholars Fund Scholarship during his four years at Marquette.

In his new position, Burton will be in charge of video break down and exchange, team travel and logistics, game scheduling and other day-to-day responsibilities as assigned by the head coach.

Thompson joins the LA Tech staff after spending the past year with assistant coach Bernitha Johnson at the University of Buffalo. She served as the assistant to the head coach where she provided administrative and professional support to the entire staff.

Her responsibilities at Buffalo included coordinating all planning, travel logistics and scheduling for the head coach while also acting as the primary point of contact and public liaison for the women's basketball program. She helped launch marketing efforts to promote the program and increase attendance, created recruiting materials for marketing the program to prospective student athletes and ran the "Reach for the Stars" program.

"I am thrilled to be working with such a wonderful group of people who are as excited as I am to be able to help rebuild the outstanding Louisiana Tech tradition," Thompson said. "Tyler is an amazing leader with an incredible vision. I am eager to help carry out that vision."

Some of her responsibilities in her new position will include overseeing the social media accounts (Facebook, twitter, Instagram) for the program, creative services, assisting with recruiting and marketing materials, and other day-to-day duties as assigned by the head coach.

Burton and Thompson join Summitt's staff which already includes Mickie DeMoss, Bernitha Johnson and Amber Smith.
