Columbus fugitive arrested after six years on the run

HOUSTON (WTVM) - A Columbus man wanted on child molestation and aggravated sexual battery charges was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Houston, Texas after six years on the run.

Fugitive Tommie Lias was located in Houston where he was living under a new identity and working under a new name. He was arrested on June 17, 2014 and booked in the Harris County Jail in Texas.

In April 2014, the CPD Fugitive Unit requested the help of U.S. Marshals Service Middle District of Georgia Columbus to review the case. The U.S. Marshals then informed the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Fugitive Task Force Houston Division of their lead.

Lias is accused of molesting a minor on or about Dec. 3, 2007. A warrant was issued for his arrest after the victim's parents reported Lias to the Columbus Police Department. However, Lias could not be found.

He will remain in Harris County Jail until he is extradited back to Columbus. That date is unknown at this time.
