(KSWB/CNN) – The San Diego Padres paid tribute to late baseball legend Tony Gwynn. The Hall of Famer died of cancer Monday at the age of 54.

Wednesday night, the Padres displayed his nickname and number in several places across Petco Park.

The game against the Seattle Mariners was the first home game since the death of the eight-time National League batting champion.

The team also announced plans for a free public memorial for Gwynn on June 26.
