COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The National Infantry Museum celebrates its fifth birthday on Thursday, June 19.
It was five years ago that the National Infantry Museum opened its doors to tell the story of the Infantrymen's valor and sacrifice.
The museum has reportedly educated more than 1.6 million visitors. To celebrate, the museum offered special discounts to visitors, like $5 IMAX tickets.
Museum president Ben Williams says the museum has a mission of service.
"Community wanted to do something honor the soldiers served here Ft. Benning and we are here to serve for Ft. Benning for the future. So it is a milestone to document to success this group of people had and got together to build this wonderful facility."
Museum officials say the facility has had a significant impact on tourism and economic development in the local area.
