COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

United Way is kicking off its first annual Stuff the Bus campaign.

This is a way for underprivileged children in our area to go back to school with the supplies they need to succeed during the school year.

The Young Professionals are also helping with the supply drive which goes through July 21.

We talked to the United Way president Scott Ferguson, who says you can help by donating at many places including Publix locations near you.

"Used to get this little pencil box, you go to school with that and your notebook. Now children have this big long list of required supplies," Ferguson said. "Thing about going to school is nervous enough but you don't have what the kid next to you has. It is important to give those children opportunity and the tools to succeed."

School supply drop-off locations include:

United Way
1100 5th Avenue
Columbus, GA

Columbus Georgia Chamber of Commerce
1200 6th Avenue

Bright Salon
1328 13th Street
