NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

School is out which means a lot of fun in the sun for children, but for some students it also means no food to eat.

New Hanover County Schools is now offering free school lunches for all children under the age of 18 to help combat hunger.

New Hanover County's free summer lunch program is federally funded. School officials said they expect 1,400-1,500 children to benefit from the program this year.

Kids can get free lunches every Monday through Thursday at several different community centers and schools throughout New Hanover County until August 7.
