Family hopes security video will find missing West Point man

41-year-old James Garner of West Point was released on a public intoxication charge in May of 2013 after spending two days behind bars in the Chambers County jail and he hasn't been heard from since.

"It's naïve to think a person just disappears into thin air, especially when they have a history of coming home, especially when they don't have a driver's license," explains attorney, Eric Hutchins.

Both Alabama and Georgia Agencies performed a massive search effort for Garner after he was reported missing last year.

However, the Garner family is organizing another search this weekend and is asking for help from the community.

"All people who know him and love him, they've been asking what they can do, we are asking for any volunteers that would like to join us Saturday morning," explains family member, Marc Garner.

Garner's family believes the security video released from the Chambers County jail shows James to look disheveled and unable to carry himself correctly as he left the jail.

He was believed to be heading to Lanett and his alleged unwell condition at the time could strike someone's memory of seeing him walking that one day in May last year.

"Hopefully this video will help someone remember something because anyone who looks at this video can tell he is very distraught," says Garner.

The Garner family needs answers and even though they may not end up with what they want to hear, they are looking for closure.

"All law enforcement, everybody is trying to find his body because at this point we do not think he's alive and it's sad, but that is the reality we are dealing with," explains Hutchins, "So for the sanctity of his memory requires that his body is found and that the truth comes out."

The search party will meet at the Chambers County Courthouse in Lafayette Saturday, June 28 at 8 a.m.

If you recognize or know the whereabouts of James Garner please give authorities a call.
