2014 Law Day for Girls at Columbus Government Center

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Dozens of girls from Columbus and Phenix City took over the Columbus Government Center on Wednesday, June 25.

The 2014 Law Day for Girls is an event that gives young ladies the opportunity to gain a real world perspective on the inner workings of the law, and what it takes to handle a case inside a courtroom.

Attorney Katonga Wright says this is a great way to show the girls the different options in the judicial system.

"We want to encourage them, and expose them to different careers other than just the typical being a lawyer." says Wright. "It's more to it than that. There's a lot of options out there, and we feel like if we expose them, and let them see it, then they'll be inspired to do something different."

The Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys and Georgia Association for Women Lawyers co-sponsored the event. This is the first time the two organizations have joined forces for this purpose.
