Thieves steal from cars at Henrico parks, 2 YMCAs

Posted: Updated:
HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -

People parked outside parks and YMCA branches in Henrico's West End found their windows smashed and items stolen earlier this month.

Henrico police are looking for the thieves who broke into seven cars and stole from an unlocked eighth vehicle earlier in June.

The thefts came at the Tuckahoe and Shady Grove YMCA locations, as well as Deep Run Park and Otter Pond Park between June 9 and 14. All the thefts came during the day and in all but one cases the victims had locked their doors. Thieves took pocketbooks, wallets, credit cards, checks and other personal items. The suspects then tried to use several of the victim's checks and bank cards.

Detectives worry the thieves are watching the victims as they exit vehicles without a purse. They are looking for a dark colored SUV and a dark colored sedan, both with out of state registrations and no front license plate.

Police ask anyone with information regarding these offenses to contact Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.
