TORONTO, ON, June 28, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Since 2008, CanadaQBank.com has devoted its resources to fostering the dreams of Canada's talented youth. It is in the spirit of that commitment, CanadaQBank.com is proud to announce that it will be sponsoring Yves Sikubwabo, a rising star in the long distance running world.

Currently a student at the University of Guelph, the 20-year-old Sikubwabo was named the 2012 CIS Rookie of the Year. He first came to Canada from Rwanda, in order to take part in the world junior track and field championship in Mocton, N.B. Despite having less than $200 in his pocket, he stayed in Canada after deciding that it was too dangerous for him to return to his homeland after the competition was over.

After spending some time living on the streets, Sikubwabo was taken in by his new "family" in Ottawa, who invited him to stay in their home after only one meeting. Once he began attending the University of Guelph, he became a leading member of the school's track and field team, with whom he participated in the 2013 CIS cross-country championships.

Sikubwabo once said in an interview, "Everything I've been able to do in my life, it has happened because of running." After both his mother and father were killed in the 1994 Rwandan genocide, Sikubwabo went to live with a poor aunt who sold bananas in the Rwandan countryside. Because the nearest school was 11km away and the family had no money for bus fare, the young orphan would run to and from school every day to get his education.

CanadaQBank.com is proud to partner with Sikubwabo on his continuing journey of athletic and personal excellence. The company believes that his powerful story of overcoming the odds and his can-do spirit can be an inspiration to everyone, and is looking forward to being a part of his future success.
