Columbus organization helping children in Uganda

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

For more than 10 years, a local organization called "The Soul of My Footprint" has been helping the people in Uganda.

We invited founder Alfie Jelks to the studio to tell us about the organization and its purpose.

In 1993, Jelks decided to travel to Uganda to help the children there. The Soul of My Footprint took its first trip to Uganda in 2001 and will make its first trip in September 2014. A group of doctors and medical professionals will join Jelks on this trip.

The organization hosted a shoe drive to donate shoes to needy children. They will also donate and toothpaste toothbrushes too. Anyone who wishes to donate these items can drop them off at Alfie's African Treasures located on University Avenue above Marco's Pizza.
