Muscogee County parents may request school of choice by July 14

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Parents of children in Muscogee County, if you want to choose a school for your student in the district other than the one they have been assigned to, now is your chance.

Parents have until July 14 to fill out a Georgia Public School Choice Option request form, which can be picked up at any Muscogee County school office.

The opportunity is a result of Georgia House Bill 251. Muscogee County school officials say spaces are limited.

"House Bill 251 allows parents to select a school of choice based on the space available in the district," explains Valerie Fuller, Director of Communications for the Muscogee County School District. "Again, it has to be space available. So, we have listed those sites, those school sites throughout the district on the website."

Students are selected for transfer using a lottery system. Click here to see the 2014 list of schools with space available.
