FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) -

Family members of Bayonet Company, 2-69 Armor Battalion, had the opportunity to create unique bonds with their soldiers and each other at the Bayonet Company Organizational Day on Thursday, July 3.

Wives and children engaged in a number activities such as rappelling from the 55-foot Eagle Tower at Sand Hill.

Organizers say the activities can build stronger family bonds.

"It gets them to overcome fears with each other," says 1LT Charlie Hahne. "So that bonding takes place. And then it's very important for the wives to know each other, to have support from each other, and be friends with each other, because if we were to deploy in future, they're the support for each other while we're gone."

Families also had the opportunity to navigate obstacle courses together before heading out on their Independence Day weekend.
