Guyton house fire considered suspicious

Posted: Updated:
GUYTON, GA (WTOC) -

Effingham County investigators say a fire that destroyed a home in Guyton is suspicious.

Fire investigators are still trying to determine how a mobile home on Middleton Road caught fire early Thursday morning.

Luckily no one was home when it happened, but investigators say the home is a total loss.

Neighbors say they are still puzzled by the whole situation and are still wondering how or possibly who started the fire. They say the man who lives there was out of town when it happened.

Folks say a suspicious fire in their neighborhood makes them very nervous and uncomfortable.

"It's pretty scary because this is a quiet little area, everyone that's lived out here has lived here for a long time," said neighbor Loraine Wilson.

The Red Cross is helping the man with funds for food and clothing.

Investigators will be out at the house on Monday continuing their investigation into the cause.
