Man found dead in Hendersonville home after exchange of gunfire

HENDERSONVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A man died Sunday night after he broke into his ex-girlfriend's house and exchanged gunfire with the woman's son.

Police said Brian Davidson, 36, of Charlotte, TN, forced his way into the home of Shawna Brush on Wessington Place just after 8 p.m.

After realizing Davidson was in the house, police said Connor Brush, the 18-year-old son of Shawna Brush, grabbed his gun and exchanged gunfire with Davidson while his mom and the rest of the family escaped.

The exchange of gunfire sent bullets flying all over the neighborhood.

"There's nine of them here and one in the front of the deck there," said neighbor Leroy McMillan of the bullet holes at his house.

The gunfire sent McMillan and his wife running in their backyard to hide.

"When this happened, I think we were behind the garage," said McMillan.

The 10 bullets that hit their front door came from across the street where police said Davidson showed up to his ex-girlfriend's house with a gun.

"I know he's been stalking her for a long time and she was fearful, so she had us watching closely," said McMillan.

The McMillans returned home from church moments after Davidson arrived.

Davidson broke in and police said Connor Brush got a gun. The two fired shots back and forth at one another.

Investigators say are performing an autopsy on Davidson's body. They say Connor Brush did shoot Davidson but that Davidson also shot himself. They have not said which shot killed him.

"There were multiple gunshots exchanged and we're going to let the police medical examiner decipher what happened with those gunshots," said Ryan.

Neighbors said Davidson had been harassing the family for a long time.

"I know Connor wouldn't do anything intentionally," said McMillan. "It was just protection for his mother."

Davidson shared two children with Shawna Brush. They were home when he made his violent entrance Sunday night.

"It throws another spotlight on the problem of domestic violence," said Ryan.

Davidson and Shawna Brush were due in court Monday. She was trying to get a protective custody order against him.
