(CNN) - The Transportation Security Administration is raising passenger security fees effective July 21 at U.S. airports.

The fees help fund TSA airport security efforts.

Right now air travelers are paying $2.50 for each plane they take to get to a destination.

The fee is capped at two plane rides each way.

But starting on the 21, the TSA will start charging a flat fee of $5.60 each way, no matter how many planes you board en route.

Congress approved the higher fees as part of its bi-partisan budget deal last December.
