Trash left at Georgia Peanut Commission following fireworks show

TIFTON, GA (WALB) - Workers at the Georgia Peanut Commission spent the morning picking up trash left behind after Thursday night's fireworks show in Tifton.

They allowed the public to use their lot located across the highway from the display, but the Executive Director says some people abused the grounds.

Executive Director Don Koehler says they had stakes set up blocking grassy parts of the area, but some people ignored them, and trampled the new grass they had just put down.

They found trash and gum on their signs. Koehler says they want to work with the public, but ask that people be more respectful.

“Most people here stayed on the hard surfaces, they respected the boundaries that were set and I hope that this is something that we can put behind us and that folks will just think next year,” says Don Koehler, Georgia Peanut Commission Executive Director.

He says they work hard to keep the grounds looking good, which is supported by area farmers.

The fireworks display took place at the Georgia Museum of Agricultural History.
