Police: 3 admit to shooting man for "giving them a dirty look"

SLIDELL, LA (KSLA) -  Three people are in custody, 2 of them from Shreveport, after a Saturday morning shooting in South Louisiana left one man seriously injured. The suspects tell detectives they were furious at the victim for "giving them a dirty look" at a Slidell gas station.

Officers say the shooting happened shortly after 12 a.m. on Saturday. Slidell Police say they responded to reports of shots fired at the Quick Check gas station on Fremaux Avenue.  Witnesses tell police that two suspects approached a man pumping gas. After a brief verbal altercation, police say gun shots rang out. Officers say the suspects fled in a white Ford Expedition.

The 23-year old male victim, whose name is not being released, was rushed to Ochsner Hospital with a serious gunshot wound. Officials say he is expected to survive. 

The victim told police he was pumping gas and exchanged glares with two people he didn't know. The victim says the two males left the area, but returned a short time later. One of the suspects was brandishing a firearm and fired several shots at the victim, striking him once.

Later Saturday morning, Slidell Police say they spotted the suspect white Ford Expedition parked at the Slidell Housing Authority on Martin Luther King Drive. 

Detectives say they were able link the vehicle back to three individuals:

24-year-old Jasmine Anthony of Slidell, LA

23-year-old Michael Wright of Shreveport, LA

25-year-old Romallis Brightman of Shreveport, LA

All three suspects cooperated with Slidell Police detectives and admitted to the shooting incident at the gas station, police say. Authorities say Brightman was the actual shooter. Officers believe Wright and Anthony were directly involved with assisting Brightman both before and after the shooting. 

The suspects told detectives that they were furious at the victim for "giving them a dirty look" at the gas station. 

Authorities say the suspects and the victim had never met prior to the Saturday morning incident.

Brightman was booked late Saturday night with attempted second degree murder. Wright and Anthony were both charged with principal to attempted second degree murder.  All three suspects are currently being held at the Slidell City Jail, and will ultimately be transported to the St. Tammany Parish Jail.
