HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

A cold front could bring some severe thunderstorms to the state on Wednesday evening.

Severe thunderstorm watches have been issued for Hartford, New Haven, Litchfield and Fairfield counties until 10 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm warning was extended for Litchfield County to 9:45 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for northern Hartford County until 10:15 p.m.

Severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued for Middlesex, northwestern New London and eastern New Haven counties until 9:15 p.m.

Chief Meteorologist Bruce Deprest said with the cold front approaching the state, showers and thunderstorms will affect the western portion of Connecticut on Wednesday night.

"Thunderstorms will diminish in intensity as temperatures begin to cool down this evening. Overnight lows will range from the upper 50s in the cool spots to the low and mid-60s elsewhere," Deprest said.

The cold front is expected to settle just to the south of New England later Wednesday night and Thursday, and there is a possibility for a shower on Thursday during the day.

Meanwhile, high pressure was forecast to build in from the west, and some seasonably warm weather is headed to the state for Thursday and Friday.
