(RNN) - David Letterman pulled a Joan Rivers on Joan Rivers.

Tuesday on the Late Show with David Letterman, Rivers received a dose of her own medicine when Letterman walked out on her during an interview.

Rivers was in the middle of explaining why she walked out on an interview with CNN’s anchor Fredricka Whitfield over the Fourth of July weekend when Letterman pulled the gag.

“She was being judgmental, very nasty and opinionated,” Rivers said.

While Rivers was speaking, Letterman took off his jacket and jokingly stormed off the set.

After Letterman left the stage, Rivers briefly continued the show by interviewing herself.

Rivers was supposed to be promoting her book, Diary of a Mad Diva, on CNN. The interview has been criticized as a publicity stunt.
