COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Another person wants to be the president of the Columbus branch of the NAACP.
Tonza Thomas formally announced her candidacy Wednesday morning for the position in the NAACP elections in November.
She is currently the organization's Secretary for the State conference. Thomas says it's time for brand new leadership.
"Sometimes you have to put a personal story with what's going on in the community before somebody can understand, sometimes you can't reach certain people because you have no idea of the demographic," Thomas said. "I know those demographics."
Nate Sanderson was the person who held the position until very recently. He resigned to make a run for a seat in the Muscogee School County Board.
