SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A former Shreveport firefighter charged in connection with the scandal at Fire Station 8 is now wanted for allegedly making threats against the fire department.

Just after 5:00 p.m. on July 11, 2014, Shreveport Police officers were notified by members of the Shreveport Fire Department command staff that they had received information a former fireman had allegedly made posts on a social media website that were threatening in nature. Police department administrators immediately assigned a marked patrol unit to the fire station mentioned in the posts and ordered detectives to investigate the matter.

Based on information and evidence gathered during their ongoing inquiry, authorities believe 51-year-old Derrick Harris made posts on Facebook threatening certain members of the Shreveport Fire Department as well as Central Fire Station.

Harris is one of 5 former Shreveport firefighters facing charges in connection with a sex and abuse scandal at Shreveport's Fire Station 8. The men were accused of hazing mentally challenged men who frequented the station and hiring a prostitute to have sex with one of them. They are charged with cruelty to the infirm and principal to prostitution.

Working closely with the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office, investigators have since obtained an arrest warrant charging Harris with one count of terrorizing. His bond has been set at $250,000.

Police are searching for Harris, whose last known address was in the 6700 block of Rasberry Lane, but have so far been unable to locate him. In a brief statement sent to KSLA News 12 late Saturday afternoon, Harris indicated that he was out of town and that he planned to answer what he called "these false charges" with his attorney on Monday.
