SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

The former Shreveport firefighter already facing charges in connection with a sex and abuse scandal at Fire Station 8 and now wanted for allegedly making a threat referencing SFD headquarters and several specific members of the fire department has issued a statement to KSLA News 12.

Derrick Harris, 51, is wanted on a warrant charging him with 1 count of terrorizing. Based on information and evidence gathered during their ongoing inquiry, police say they believe Harris made posts on Facebook threatening certain members of the Shreveport Fire Department as well as Central Fire Station.

"I think it says a lot about how serious the criminal justice system takes threats of this kind," said Shreveport Police Department Spokesman Bill Goodin.

The post in question references a desire to remake the movie Django Unchained at the Central Fire Station, a movie that depicts brutal violence. Harris also named specific people that would play characters who died in the movie, including SFD Chief Craig Mulford, who himself is facing charges of malfeasance in office in connection with the investigation into the scandal at Fire Station 8.

In a message to KSLA News 12 late Saturday afternoon, Harris said, "I'm currently not in Shreveport and was totally unaware of these charges. Will be back Monday with my attorney to answer these false charges. Anyone who reads my posts are aware that they are filled with comedy and are never meant to be harmful or malicious. I've never threatened anyone and I'm deeply saddened that some people feel that way. That status was just a joke.

Nowhere in that status was anyone threatened or targeted with any harm. If you were to read the replies, you will see my reply to Anthony Gueory in which I stated that it was done tongue in cheek....a simple status to make people smile."

However, Shreveport police say their investigators and the district attorney's office feel the the alleged threat warrants a criminal charge.

"I think when you look at the totality of the circumstances, we're going to take things like this seriously," says SPD Assistant Chief Bill Goodin. "We worked closely with the Caddo Parish District Attorney's office, through the night and ultimately our detectives working in conjunction with the district attorney's office, made a determination that probable cause did exist for this particular charge of terrorizing, they moved forward in preparing the affidavit for the arrest warrant."

A Shreveport police unit has been stationed outside Central Fire Station on N. Common St., where it has been since police found out about the post, according to Goodin.  "We thought that [the extra security] was the appropriate thing to do given the context of the situation," he said.

Harris is one of 5 former Shreveport firefighters facing charges in connection with a sex and abuse scandal at Shreveport's Fire Station 8. The men were accused of hazing mentally challenged men who frequented the station and hiring a prostitute to have sex with one of them. They are charged with cruelty to the infirm and principal to prostitution.

Harris is also facing some trouble with his former attorney. John Settle, the attorney initially hired to defend him for the Fire Station 8 scandal, is now suing Harris. According to Settle, Harris refused to pay his legal fees so he fired him as a client.

Police say they have been unable to find Harris, to arrest him. Police are asking the public, if you know where Derrick Harris is, call Crimestoppers at 673-7373 or go to http://lockemup.org/.
