HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A deserving Hub City woman is beginning a new life in a home of her own, thanks to a long-standing partnership between the City of Hattiesburg and the Community Connections organization. Patricia Bryant cut a ribbon Saturday to welcome guests to her new home on Barkley Road.

She's the latest Hattiesburg resident to benefit from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Home Investment Partnerships Program (HOME).

It provides mortgage subsidies for qualified low-income applicants to help them get affordable housing. Bryant also got help from a downpayment assistance program.

The funds were administered through Community Connections, which is a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO).

"It just gives me reassurance and confidence in what The Word says: 'Seek ye first His kingdom and all things will be added unto you,'" said Bryant.

"She has to meet certain qualifications, income, credit, everything, gainfully employed...she met all those qualifications," said Donna Ali, executive director of Community Connections.

In the last 15 years, Community Connections has also helped about 20 other local residents get a new home of their own.
