SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A man charged after he nearly injured a baby with firecrackers is expected to be in court this week.

Michael McCarty is scheduled to appear in a Chatham County courtroom Wednesday on charges of reckless conduct and cruelty to children.

McCarty is accused of throwing a firecracker into a crowd on River Street on July 4th. The firecracker landed in a baby's car seat.

The baby's mother says she quickly grabbed her child out of the car seat before the firecracker ignited.

The car seat was damaged but thankfully the baby was not injured.
