COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

From now until August 19, 2014, Winn-Dixie customers have an opportunity to help fight childhood hunger in the Chattahoochee Valley.

Feeding the Valley Food Bank in Columbus, Ga. is one of 18 food banks in the southeast region benefiting from Winn-Dixie's Summer Backpack Hunger Relief program.

Donations to the program will go to help fill backpacks with nutritious food that will help hungry children thrive better in the upcoming school year.

"The Winn-Dixie Summer Backpack Hunger Relief Program provides a quick and easy way for our communities to help give hungry children a nutritious meal," said Rondel Hartwell, Winn-Dixie's director of community involvement and charitable giving.

Customers are encouraged to donate to the program at any Winn-Dixie store register.
