ASHLAND, VA (WWBT) -

An Ashland woman has died after she was pulled from a burning house Tuesday morning.

The fire started around 6 a.m. in the 12000 block of Cheroy Road. An off-duty Henrico firefighter pulled an elderly woman from the home. The victim was rushed to VCU Medical Center.

According to the victim's family, 79-year-old Margaret Fontaine passed away around 10 a.m. The family says Fontaine went to Mt. Hermon Church every Sunday near her home.

Crews are still on scene putting out hot spots. They plan to be there for the next several hours. Cheroy Road between Ashcake and Mount Herman Road is shut down while the investigation continues.
